MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history ... the actual jersey prepared for use by the FDNY Hockey Team to honor FDNY Chief Ray Downey.
All proceeds of this auction will be donated to the Ray Pfeifer Foundation, which assists first responders with medical expenses not covered by insurance as a result of 9-11.
This Commemorative cream jersey was prepared for the FDNY Hockey Team during their 6-5 victory over the NYPD Hockey Team on April 20, 2024 at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY. It was created to honor FDNY Chief Ray Downey, a firefighter and member of the team who passed away during rescue efforts on September 11, 2001. Downey became a member of the FDNY on April 7, 1962 and was the commanding officer of FDNY Special Operations Command during the World Trade Center Attacks. The team retired his number on March 2, 2002. This jersey has Downey's name on the back rather than "Bravest."
For the 50th Annual FDNY vs. NYPD Game, the FDNY Hockey Team wore off-white vintage-style uniforms accentuated by black "NYFD" letters on the front and numbers on the sleeves with red accents. The nameplates keep with the vintage theme, with white lettering on a black bar. Inside the collar, five numbers are found. Four are numbers retired by the team, and the fifth is 343, the number of firefighters who died during rescue efforts on September 11, 2001.
