MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history ... the actual helmet worn by #61 Matt Zay of the FDNY Hockey Team.
All proceeds of this auction will be donated to the Ray Pfeifer Foundation, which assists first responders with medical expenses not covered by insurance as a result of 9-11.
Matt Zay of Engine Co. 216 wore this red helmet while playing for the FDNY Hockey Team during their 6-5 victory over the NYPD Hockey Team on April 20, 2024 at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.
Zay had a notable career in minor league hockey, playing in seven AHL games for the Springfield Falcons and Binghamton Senators in 2014-15 and scoring nine goals with 12 assists for the ECHL's Evansville Icemen the following season.
For the 50th Annual FDNY vs. NYPD Game, the FDNY Hockey Team wore red helmets to complement its vintage-style off-white jerseys for the first time in team history. This helmet is fully stickered with the "343 and counting..." decals and the "G2H Foundation" decal, which supports community-based charities, families in need and first responder-related charitable causes. The foundation honors Gerrin Hagen, a Long Beach, NY native and hockey and lacrosse player whose life was cut short at age 18 after being struck by an automobile during school dismissal.
